Tips on recording a file larger than 2 Gigs:

If you are planning to record a long video, here are some tips you may want to try:

Use the "FM Screen Capture Codec. ̄
Reduce the FPS value (Frames Per Second)
For demonstrations, tutorials, and seminars, 5-7 fps is enough.

To reduce a file size for real videos, don't use the "FM Screen Capture Codec ̄, as it may generate a huge AVI file with real videos. We advise you to use the XviD codec at www.xvid.org, or you can download the latest version of XviD from: http://www.koepi.org/xvid.html

Setting Up Video Screen for Capturing

After installing Internet Video Recorder, the first place you visit is Video Screen Setting as you see below. You determine where to save the recorded video file under PATH: section. Then, you need to conduct some testing on your computer performance. Start with the default setting as shown below, but remember that you have a TEST button to test video recording performance. To adjust the recording performance, you can adjust the recording rate, and recording sound. Key frame number affects the performance slightly, but it is not a main factor. With these parameters in mind, go to the next step and start recording video from your window screen.

Setting Up Audio Recording For Video Capturing

If you want to record the sound together, do not forget to set up the sound option in this screen. Remember, the higher the sample rate is, more the CPU power is taken for recording sound. Unless you have a really high power computer, keep it less than 22050 or less. Same trade-off applies to the Mon vs. Stereo.

One more important setting in sound recording is to make sure you have the source of sound set properly in windows setting. From Control Panel, you start sound control, and select recording property. Here, you need to select Stereo Mix or Mon Mix depending on your intention of recording Mon or Stereo.

When you use mouse, clicking red circle button start video recording. To stop recording, click the X marked icon at the bottom right side of your screen.

Start Recording With Proper Screen Area Setting

Before you start recording, you need to select the area or windows where the recording is targeted. There are two different ways to define target area; (1) Rectangle with the size typed in the X and Y parameters, or (2) Select a window by moving mouse and click the target window. If you are not sure which area of your screen is set as the target, you can click Target button to display it.

An important parameter here is "Capture transparent windows". When you get blank recording, your computer may need to turn on this parameter. Note, turning on this parameter requires to re-start your computer.
